FAQs
Here you will find the answers to possible questions about our terminology.
What is a data set?
A data record can be a document, i.e. an MS Word file, a PowerPoint presentation, an Excel file, a PDF, etc., but also an image (photo or graphic) or an email. When integrating databases into your searchit application, actual data records also fall into this category.
What are search sources?
Search sources, or connectors, are the sources that are indexed by searchit to let you find what you are looking for via full-text search. So file servers, email servers, various databases, websites, cloud storage such as Dropbox, etc.
You can find more information about the searchit search sources here.
What is meant by user?
Users here actually mean people with their individual login data, and not individual computers or mobile devices. After all, you should also be able to search your data on the move in order to access appointments, contact details, contracts, etc.
Which services are included?
The included services for all product packages include software updates and major release upgrades. Additional services can be arranged according to your requirements. IT service management services can be booked for application maintenance, including service level agreements (SLAs) if required. End-user support and training also fall into the category of bookable services.
The searchit-specific IT and development services include:
- Installation of new connectors and integration of new sources
- Development of new source connectors
- Branding of the surface (colors, fonts, etc.)
- Integration of new information types into the search engine including definition of storage structures (field definitions), result visualization (display) and searchability rules (weighting, etc.). The following information types are already supported by searchit by default: Document, Email, Contacts, Tasks, Appointments, Websites
- Development and integration of new plugins
Which plugins can be integrated?
You can use plugins to extend the functionality of your company’s internal search engine. You can currently choose between seven different plug-ins that can be added to the basic installation:
- Text Recognition (OCR)
- Data Visualization
- Classification / Clustering
- Data Transformation
- Geo Search
- Onsite Search
You can find more information about the plugins on the linked information pages.
What is meant by "Hardware"?
Various implementation options are available for your in-house search engine (cloud, virtual machine or appliance). If you have chosen implementation via an appliance, there are two different hardware solutions available, depending on your requirements, which can be integrated into your own IT infrastructure:
searchit mini
A space-saving appliance with passive cooling. Extremely quiet. Extremely reliable.
searchit 19″ rackmount
Highly scalable, for installation in your server rack.
